Studying Brazilian Portuguese
If you are an American and have ever traveled to Australia or New Zealand, then you understand that American English and Australian or New Zealander English can sometimes feel like completely different languages. Sure, you understood most of what you heard on your trip, but every once in a while you came across a phrase or word or pronunciation that you had no idea about the meaning of or misunderstood completely.
Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese have similar differences. If you are interested in learning Brazilian Portuguese, you need to understand that taking a Portuguese class may not be sufficient to truly learn and embrace the language as it is spoken in South America. When studying Brazilian Portuguese, you need to find an instructor or a course that specializes in this particular dialect if you wish to become a fluent conversational speaker.
The Portuguese settlers came to Brazil in the 16th century, bringing their language with them to the continent for the first time. Even though many people spoke Portuguese during these colonial times, it did not become the national language until nearly 200 years after the first settlers arrived. While the rest of South America embraced Spanish as its new language, Brazil was able to keep Portuguese as its native tongue.
However, English as well as Spanish-speaking countries surround Brazil, and these languages have had an impact on Portuguese over time, thus further contributing to the differences between the language spoken in Europe and the language spoken in Brazil. Also, the languages of the African slaves and the people who were native to South America when the Europeans first arrived had an influence.
In Brazil, the written Portuguese that is taught in the schools is actually quite similar grammatically to European Portuguese. Many school-age children are not studying Brazilian Portuguese, but rather are studying the European counterpart. However, when it comes to conversational Portuguese, there is a distinct difference between the two dialects.
As you are learning Brazilian Portuguese, you will want to find a course that will teach you both the written and the spoken variations. For example, you will need to be taught the Brazilian pronunciation and accent of certain words, even though they may be spelled the same in both dialects. If your goal is to achieve conversational proficiency in your new language, make sure the teacher is pronouncing the words as a Brazilian would. Also, you should be aware of the fact that there are some subtle spelling differences between the two dialects.
If you are ready to learn Brazilian Portuguese, you will need to choose an appropriate course or software program to help you. Be sure that you choose something that is taught by native Brazilian speakers so that you can benefit from hearing the proper pronunciations of words. Immersion in a new language is the best way to learn, so choose a program that will require you to listen to the language being spoken and respond in turn. European Influences in Brazil
Brazil is a wonderfully culturally rich country, where influences from all over the world meet and combine to create a unique culture found only in Brazil. The long-lasting influence of Europeans, first with the colonization by the Portuguese, who gave the country its current language, then with various waves of European immigration, can be seen throughout the country, in the architecture or traditions of Brazilian people.
The main nationalities of emigrants that can be found in Brazil are Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and German, closely followed by Japanese who massively emigrated in the beginning of the 20th century.
German emigration, although only 4th in terms of numbers, behind other European nationalities, has left some important marks on the Brazilian culture and landscape, particularly in the South. Emigration started as early as 1824, long before other Europeans started coming, and German Brazilian showed particularly high birth rates, which explains their influence. Although they only represent a small minority in the whole country, their influence in the southern Brazil has been quite important, mostly because they have retained their language and customs, more than any other immigrant group.
The German settlements cover large areas in the states of Parana, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, and are generally located in isolated areas which allowed settlers to organize themselves independently from the Brazilian authorities, building their own houses, churches and schools. Italian immigration was also relatively common in the 19th century and has left many marks on the Brazilian landscapes and culture. It is believed that Brazilian of Italian descent are the 4th most populous group of Brazilians from foreign origin, and they are a prominent group, well represented in the Brazilian public life: politics, arts, and sports sector are all filled with Brazilian Italians. The first group of Italians arrived to Brazil in 1875, followed by a peak in emigration in the late 19th century when almost 1 million Italians came to settle. Italian settlements are mostly found in southern and southeastern Brazil, where many established vineyards, or worked in coffee plantations.
Of course the dominant European influence in Brazil, which dominated the entire country, is that of Portugal, which claimed the land as its colony in 1500, and started colonization in 1534. Portuguese assimilated some of the native communities while they annihilated others, progressively imposing their language and culture in most places. Portuguese descent forms the largest group of the Brazilian population, followed by Brazilians of African descent and native Amerindians.

I just started a new duty 2 days ago & it’s not what I expected. Anyway, I’m not happy w/the job. I’m moving out of state (back to my hometown) within about 3 months. I’m currently collecting Unemployment Insurance & can still continue to receive it even though I leave behind up this job. The salary to this brief is not needed since my husband’s salary & my UI is satisfactory. The job doesn’t pay all right & is not permanent for I will be on a 120 days probation period so accordingly, there’s no benefits till then. My husband and I are going through a really tough time right now and it things don’t seem to be getting any better. Don’t find me wrong, we are fine, as a couple, it is our financial life that seems to return with worse everyday. My husband joined the Army in February and be gone for 4 and a half months. I started a degree in Accountancy ending September and managed to get contained by to university with only 2 SQA Highers (there is a awfully good reason for solitary having 2 Highers). However as I have be looking up at the requirements of firms it seems that I wont be able to bring a job after Uni as I don’t have the UCAS points. I will I had just go to college for a year then to Uni with the correct amount of UCAS points. I hold considered trying to get work experience at a firm, like so several hours a week and I would even be willing to do this without any take-home pay (which I have had mixed counsel about). I have thought of getting a paid leisure job doing just broad things like book-keeping but I’m finding this difficult as most firms are looking for practical experience. The thing I am presently considering is if I try and get more Highers at night to attain my UCAS points up or just go spinal column to college this August full time for a year. If anyone has experience of this please help me out. Thanks

I just wanna know something like how long does it usually take for accountants to get 6 digits income. I know accountants get high earnings at the beginning, but the increase rate is pretty low.
